West Suffolk Beekeepers Association

Constitution

The purpose of the Association is to encourage beekeeping and improve knowledge of beekeeping in the district.

  • The Association is not for profit.

  • Management of the Association shall be vested in the Chairman and Committee, all of whom shall retire annually, but shall be eligible for re-election.

  • The Committee shall consist of the President, Chairman, Vice-chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, Membership Secretary and up to seven members elected at the Annual General Meeting of members.

  • Any five members of the Committee shall form a quorum.

  • The committee shall meet as often as necessary, but not less than four times a year.

  • The Committee shall have the power to co-opt.

  • The committee can award members Honorary Life Membership of West Suffolk Beekeepers Association, typically, but not limited to, members who have made a significant contribution to the Association.

  • Subscriptions shall be set by the committee and become due and payable by 31 st December of the preceding year.

  • Members who have not paid subscriptions by 31 December may cease to receive newsletters, notification of meetings and other communications.

  • The Annual General Meeting shall be in February each year, or such other date as may be necessary at the discretion of the Committee, when the Secretary’s Report and Treasurer’s Statement of Accounts shall be presented. Ten members of West Suffolk Beekeepers’ Association shall form a Quorum.

  • At the Annual General Meeting, members shall have the power to elect Honorary Vice-Presidents for services to the Association.

  • A Show may be held annually on a date agreed by the Committee.

  • The Committee shall draw up such Show Rules as may be necessary and select a competent Judge for each Show.

  • In the event of the Association ceasing to function, it shall be the duty of the Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary to ensure all trophies and records are transferred to Suffolk BKA for safe custody. Also, to ensure all debts are paid, and surplus cash in hand or at the bank shall be remitted to the Suffolk BKA to be held in Trust until a successor to this Association may be formed.

  • The Constitution allows for the election of President, Chairman, Vice Chairman, Honorary Treasurer, Honorary Secretary, Membership Secretary and general members at the AGM, a form being sent to all members by post or email, not less than fourteen days beforehand. Nominations must be received by the secretary by post or email (in which case a signature is not required, provided it is emailed from the email address shown on the proposer’s WSBKA membership details) within five days of the AGM.

  • No alteration of these Rules shall be made except at a General Meeting, for which seven clear days’ notice shall have been given setting out proposed alterations.
