Beginner Beekeepers' Training Course
For those who are not yet certain that beekeeping is right for them, we plan to hold an Introduction to Beekeeping evening in November, most likely on Tuesday, 3 November 2026. The session will cost £20 and will provide an overview of what is involved in becoming a beekeeper.
Course fees for 2027 are £175, inclusive of WSBKA membership. Those who attend the Introduction to Beekeeping evening will receive a £20 discount on the actual course.
We are proposing Wednesday, 24 March 2027 as the start date for the next Beginner Beekeepers' Training Course. We strongly recommend that you do not purchase any beekeeping equipment until after the first theory session.
The course will include three theory sessions on Wednesday evenings, followed by five additional theory and practical sessions held at Nowton Park Village Hall and our apiary. To gain the full benefit of the training, participants will also be expected to attend further practical sessions at the apiary on Sundays throughout the beekeeping season.
Please get in touch with wsbka.education@gmail.com for more information.
The course is a mixture of lectures and practical activities, and covers the following areas:
Natural History
Forage and Hive Products
Swarming
Pests and Diseases
Hive Design and Woodworking
Siting an Apiary and record keeping
Health and Safety
